David brings to Holzer Patel Drennan over 36 years of experience in Intellectual Property, Corporate Law, Venture Capital, Business and Transactional Counseling to a client base ranging from startups to Fortune 500 Companies. After earning his law degree at the University of Santa Clara in 1981, David began his practice in Silicon Valley just as the area was emerging onto the global landscape as the center of the hi-tech industry, and was a co-founder of one of the area’s first “computer law” firms headquartered in Mountain View, California. David returned to his native Denver in 1995, and has continued to focus on his specialty areas serving clients throughout the state. David’s extensive experience with technology development, venture capital, entrepreneurs, startups, intellectual property, mergers, acquisitions, ecommerce, marketing, franchising, dispute resolution and litigation support is a strong asset to Holzer Patel Drennan and the growth of our Trademark, Copyright and Commercial law practice groups.

In joining Holzer Patel Drennan, David helps emerging and established businesses protect intellectual property rights and address general business issues. His clients cover a wide range of fields, including food, craft brewing, lodging, sustainability, education, entertainment, banking, telecommunications, software, medicine, fitness, cannabis and hospitality. His skills cover many areas, including IP registration and enforcement; negotiation and enforcement in licensing and other technology transfer deals; OEM, VAR, reseller and other vertical relationships; internet and ecommerce issues; domain disputes; UETA compliance; due diligence IP analysis; IP audits; best practice programs; trade secret protection; copyrights; and franchising.

David frequently lectures on IP topics to trade groups and professional organizations, and created the Legal Bytes column that still runs in the Denver Business Journal online edition. He spends his free time enjoying the outdoors, inventing, playing and writing music, and raising his teenage twins with his wife, Meg.
