Trade Secrets
Trade secret protection is a branch of intellectual property that aims to protect against the unauthorized transmission of highly confidential information. Generally, a trade secret is any scientific or technical information, design, process, procedure, formula, improvement, confidential business or financial information, listing of names, addresses, or telephone numbers, or other information relating to any business or profession which is secret and of value. Types of confidential information that can be protected as trade secret may include formulas, recipes, processes, data, customer information, and business methods, among many others. However, trade secrets are only protected if the owner takes specific steps to maintain such information as secret.
Holzer Patel Drennan works closely with clients to establish trade secret policies and procedures aimed at establishing and maintaining strong trade secret protection over a company’s confidential information. We also have extensive experience working with clients to identify instances of trade secret theft and enforcing trade secret rights. Furthermore, Holzer Patent Drennan prides itself on helping clients manage the often-confusing intersection between trade secret protection and the other branches of intellectual property.
