Tera Smith

Tera’s current practice emphasizes patent preparation and prosecution in a wide range of technical areas including disk and solid-state storage technologies, semiconductor devices and manufacturing processes, optics, spaceflight technologies, quantum computing, computing device accessories and other computer hardware, a wide range of mechanical devices, and software in a variety of fields including artificial intelligence (AI), virtual and augmented reality, graphics rendering and processing, encryption, network security, and more.

She enjoys counseling clients on cost-effective IP strategies and also has experience in performing intellectual property portfolio due diligence and patent analysis (non-infringement/infringement, validity/invalidity, freedom to operate, and patentability).

Tera has been practicing IP law since 2012. Prior to law school, Tera earned undergraduate degrees in physics and astronomy at CU-Boulder and held a number of different research and engineering positions. Tera has been selected as a “Colorado Rising Star” for the past four consecutive years, meaning she’s recognized by her peers as a top-rated attorney. An active runner, Tera has completed several half marathons and a handful of full marathons. She also loves spending time in the mountains and has summited several of Colorado’s fourteeners.
